In recognition of his emergence as one of the construction industry’s rising young talents, Thomas Dube of Worcester-based design-build firm Cutler Associates was recently recognized by Building Design & Construction magazine as one the publication’s top ‘40 Under 40’ professionals. Dube is a project manager for Cutler, and was selected from a field of nearly 500 engineers, architects, and construction professionals nominated for this honor. The 2006 List is the inaugural publication of the “Under 40” feature.
Dube earned the award not only for his skills managing design-build projects, but also based on his participation in both industry association and charitable activities. His ability to successfully juggle two of the company’s most important fast-track projects within an 18-month schedule impressed his Cutler colleagues.
Dube served as project manager for Cranwell Resort, a world class health spa project in Lennox, Mass., while simultaneously managing the construction of a gamma irradiation sterilization plant in Chester, NY for Steris Isomedix. “They were very unique projects, and very different,” said Fred Mulligan, president of Cutler Associates. “But knowing his skills and attitude, we felt very confident giving Tom the opportunity to manage both projects.”
Currently, Dube is leading the construction of one of the company’s most prominent projects – a $33 million, 400-bed residence hall complex at the University of New Hampshire.
Dube is actively involved as a volunteer leader and teacher in the industry. He previously served as a trustee of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a national organization representing over 23,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in the U.S., and chaired ABC’s Young Leaders Council. In addition, he has served as a guest lecturer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Fitchburg State College.
The 40 Under 40 listing also cited Dube’s work as president-elect of the non-profit Dynamy, Inc., an educational organization that strives to challenge, support, and empower young people to discover their purpose in life, and to practice their values through internship and mentoring programs.
