Cutler Earns Two Eagle Awards for Excellence in Construction
Two renovation projects by Cutler Associates were named top winners in the 2006 Excellence in Construction Award competition by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Massachusetts. Cutler was recognized with two “Eagle” Awards, the highest ABC award achievement level, for the renovation and rebuilding of Bierkoe Hall conference center at Endicott College and for the historic renovation/addition of Ayer Community Hospital into the 73-units Nashoba Park Independent and Assisted Living in Ayer, Massachusetts.

According to the ABC, the competition is a nationwide program designed to publicly recognize quality and innovation in construction. The 2006 Awards are the 17th annual ABC Massachusetts Excellence competition. Winners are selected by a jury of industry professionals and building owners.

“This recognition is particularly gratifying for all of us at Cutler because the awards are made by industry peers and by clients,” stated Fred Mulligan, president of Cutler Associates. “We see the award as one recognizing the entire building team on both projects,” he added.

In Ayer, Massachusetts, the award-winning team included project nonprofit owner/developer Volunteers of America, facility operator Senior Living Residences, and project architect The Architectural Team. The team overcame budget constraints, structural problems and site challenges to open 73 affordable housing units for residents facing few options for staying in the Ayer community during their senior years.

At Endicott College, Cutler rebuilt an aging and underused gymnasium into a new 24,000 square foot conference center. Designed by architects, JSA, Inc., the new facility opened in the summer of 2006. The project is one several initiatives led by Endicott president Dr. Richard E. - Wylie to help transform the College’s oceanfront south campus into a combined academic and business conference site. Bierkoe Hall conference center is now generating a significant non-tuition revenue stream to support the educational mission of Endicott College.

The winning firms will be recognized by ABC at an awards ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge on November 16th.
